US-Mexico Wood Packaging Materials Update
|
Dear ProTrans Associate, Government regulations requiring all pallets, crates, and other solid wood packaging material to be treated for insects are scheduled to be enforced on shipments between the US and Mexico as of September 16, 2005. All pallets used for international shipments must bear these markings: Many of the shipments handled by ProTrans International for the maquiladora industry originate in the US and are consigned to a US address in Texas, Arizona, or California. The suppliers who originate these shipments see them as domestic shipments and they may not consider that they are ultimately shipping international and may not realize the impact of shipping on non-compliant pallets. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) will enforce this ruling on US imports. The CBP implementation plan calls for phased-in compliance. Phase I, effective September 16th, 2005, calls for notices of violations, but uninterrupted service. Phase II effective February 1st, 2006, calls for immediate re-exportation for shipments on non-compliant pallets. Mexico has announced a parallel implementation plan on shipments imported into Mexico. Links to these announcements are located further below. ProTrans implores our customers to contact each and every one of their suppliers as soon as possible to ensure compliance. “Remember, if the pallets don't comply, the shipment won't cross, and great delays and costs will ensue”. Reynosa Maquila Association newsletter. ProTrans will not be responsible for costs and delays associated with non-compliant pallets. Please help us plan to avoid these problems by taking action early. We appreciate your prompt and comprehensive action.
